High School Student Offers Welding Classes to Younger Grades

One of Blackville High seniors has taken it upon himself to teach a welding course to Blackville School's middle school population.  Avery Donahue has taken this project on to complete his capstone project in his Essential Skills class.

He has dedicated part of his day to teaching middle school students how to weld. He took the initiative to discuss this as a possibility with his teachers Mr. Comfort and Mrs. Moody, who were ecstatic to help him start.

Avery enjoys teaching the welding class and would gladly make a career out of it. The students also love the course. Many of them are excited to have the opportunity. The students engage in the lessons and are eager to learn.

Some of the best preforming students provided their opinion on the class. Becca Hallihan, top preforming girl in the class, says she would take the class again and that she enjoys her teacher. Turner Kenny, one of three boys who are excelling in the course, says he would consider doing it as a career in the future.

Blackville School hopes to continue offering electives to middle school, as well as providing students with the opportunity to teach and learn new things. To see more photos from the class, check out the Blackville School's Facebook Page.
