Fancy Shawl Dancer Visits Blackville School

Fancy Shawl Dancer Shelly Ann Robichaud presented and spoke to the students and staff on Friday, February 9 about Indigenous history and culture.

A Mi'kmaw from the Esgenoôpetitj First Nation Community, Robichaud led the assembly to chant traditional songs. Many of the younger students also joined her in dance.

Following the morning presentation, she was available in the open area of the school with her exhibit, showcasing different aspects of Mi'kmaq culture. She then led the grade 9 students in a dream catcher workshop.

On a Facebook post, Robichaud said "spending a morning with K-12 brought me so much joy, love and good medicine."

She added, "Thank you to my former English teacher Ms. Shannon Stewart for welcoming me into your grade 9 class to do a dream catcher workshop. I am so proud of each and every student for participating, showing respect and being so patient."
