Blackville School 2025 Graduating Class

Twenty five grade 12 students celebrated their graduations with family, friends, staff and community members at Blackville School on Thursday evening, June 19.

The valedictorian was Lily McEvoy and the salutatorian was Abbie McAllister. Reverend John Stewart gave the invocation and the benediction.

Blackville School Acting Principal Angela Moody addressed the staff, graduates and their guests.

Later that evening, after the graduation ceremony, the graduates participated in the overnight Safe Grad event in Fredericton at the Kingswood Entertainment Centre.

Elementary and Middle School Awards Day

Two awards ceremonies for elementary and middle school students were held on Friday, June 20 at Blackville School. 

On the last day of school, the students and staff gathered in the gym with family and friends for the two events.

Relay for Life 2025

Staff, students and community members gathered for the second Annual Relay for Life at Blackville School on Thursday, May 29.

Gathering outside for the opening ceremonies, Grade 11 student Danica Mullin welcomed everyone. Grade 8 student Kalainy Jardine, a cancer survivor, shared her experiences and why the event is so important.

The students then followed in behind the community members who are survivors of cancer and who came out to participate in the event. After the outside walk, everyone then went into the gym for the luminary walk.

There was also a BBQ and various outdoor games. The fundraising goal is $5000.00. The school is still taking donations online. You can donate online by clicking here. All proceeds are for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Blackville School Middle and High School Recognition Ceremony 2025

The Recognition and Awards Ceremony for middle and high school students at Blackville School was held on Tuesday, May 27.

Kolton Collins (grade 11) and Chloe Furlong (grade 10) were awarded the High School Male and Female Athletes of the Year.

Middle School Male and Female Athletes of the Year are Pierce Brophy (grade 8) and Miley McCormack. 

Ayden Munn (grade 11) and Lily McEvoy (grade 12) were awarded the Outstanding Female and Male Academic and Extra Curricular Activities.

Lily McEvoy was awarded the Fenton Sturgeon Memorial Award. This award is presented to a grade 12 student who has participated in sports through all four years of high school, with special consideration given to those who have volunteered their time to coach young athletes outside of school.

Danica Mullin (grade 11) and Kolton Collins were awarded the School Spirit Award. This award goes to an individual who is dedicated to school activities and events throughout the current school year.

The Family of the Year Award went to the Hallihan family of Ashley and Kelly and their children Malia (grade 10), Lainey (grade 9), and Janna (grade 7).

The MCs for the event were Myles Curtis and Miranda Nordin.

Truth and Reconciliation Day at Blackville School

 

National Truth and  Reconciliation Day was on September 30. The elementary  students did a colouring activity of arms, and the older students wrote little "be kind" messages for the arms. This activity was to emphasize the motto "Every Child Matters". This design is on display on the second floor bulletin board.

Almost $1300 Raised for Cancer Research

Students and teachers alike, laced up their shoes and walked for a wonderful cause. The cause in question was the annual Terry Fox walk on Monday, September 23. Each student participated and donated at least $1 each. The students and teachers raised just under $1300. All money was donated to cancer research. To see more photos from the event, click here.

38 Students Celebrate Graduation

Thirty eight grade 12 students celebrated their graduations with family, friends, staff and community members at Blackville School on Thursday evening, June 20.

The valedictorian was Jaxon Jardine and the salutatorian was Abby Sturgeon. Reverend John Stewart gave the invocation and Reverend Lester Mitchell did the benediction.

Blackville School Principal Rodney Buggie addressed the staff, graduates and their guests.

Gifts were also presented to teachers Arlene Waugh and Lori Curtis who are retiring this year. 

Later that evening, after the graduation ceremony, the graduates participated in the overnight Safe Grad event at the Renous Rec. Centre and the Tom Donovan Arena.

Elementary Awards Day 2024

Elementary Cross Country
The elementary students at Blackville School gathered in the gym with family and friends for the year-end awards on Friday, June 21, the last day of school.

Caleb Sturgeon was the recipient of the Ron Pauley Award. This award is given to a student who displays an overall interest and participation in sports while demonstrating good sportsmanship and is a good ambassador for Blackville Elementary.

Grade 2 student Graham Brophy and grade 3 student Mia Fortune were recognized for good attendance which means a student has missed only three days or less. Students who have perfect attendance for a particular month had an opportunity to have their names drawn for a $50.00 gift card. Marion Doyle received a gift card for April, Danika Crocker for May and Brady Hallihan for June.

Middle School Awards Day 2024

The Middle School students and their families celebrated recognitions and awards on Thursday, June 20 at Blackville School.

Good Attendance Awards, for students who missed three days or less throughout the school year, went to Grade 6 student Sofie Gilks and Grade 7 student Avery Korobko. 

Ty Coughlan was recognized for Perfect Attendance in April. Ayden Crocker took Perfect Attendance for May and Rhyder Losier was recognized for June.

High School Student of the Week

Grade 10 student Lincoln Curtis is the High School Student of the Week. He was nominated by Mr. Buggie.

Mr. Buggie said, he nominated Lincoln for "for his honesty when finding money and returning it to his teacher."

High School Student of the Week

Grade 12 student Kaden McNeil is the High School Student of the Week. He was nominated by Mr. Hallihan.

Mr. Hallihan said "Kaden has become an ambassador of our school through his play with the Miramichi Timberwolves. He is always first to give back to his school and community whether it be playing floor hockey or bringing in a championship trophy to get pics with elementary students."

"He is a great student to have in the classroom too, where he is always respectful and has a good sense of humour. It was an exciting year for the Miramichi Timberwolves, and a lot of local fans became part of the #backthepack movement because of Kaden - congrats on the experience."

The other student nominated was Randi Jo Sturgeon. Congratulations to Kaden and Randi Jo.

Relay for Life May 24

The first Relay for Life at Blackville School was held last Friday, May 24.    

Students, staff and many community members participated in the event. The event included a survivor lap to honour those affected by cancer. 

There was also a BBQ, ice cream and various outdoor games. All money raised is for the Canadian Cancer Society.

High School Recognition Ceremony 2024

The Recognition and Awards Ceremony for high school students was held on Monday, May 27.

Blake Curtis (grade 12), Jaxon Jardine (grade 12) and Abby Underhill (grade 12) were awarded the Male and Female Athletes of the year.

Their names will later be commemorated on a new list of athletes, while the old eagles will be taken down and given to the athletes.


Jerrica Manderville (grade 12) and Jaxon Jardine (grade 12) were awarded the Outstanding Female and Male Academic and Extra Curricular Activities.

High School Student of the Week

Grade 12 student Armani Hooper is the High School Student of the Week. She was nominated by Mrs. Stewart.

Mrs. Stewart said "Armani is an exceptional student in Visual Arts 9. She always puts 100% effort into her schoolwork and is always willing to help when needed. Awesome job Armani!"

The other students nominated are Addison Coughlan and Avrey Coughlan. Congratulations to Armani and the other nominees.

High School Student of the Week


Grade 12 student Abby Underhill is the High School Student of the Week. She was nominated by Mr. Hallihan.

Mr. Hallihan nominated Abby on her efforts to organize the first Relay for Life event at Blackville School. He said, "her passion for this project is evident in her launch this week and he is sure the event will be a success." He added, "Projects like these make a difference both in the school as well as the community - well done, Abby." 

The other students nominated are Kaden Coughlan and Keenan Underhill. Congratulations to Abby and the other nominees.

High School Student of the Week


Grade 9 student Olha Ovcharuk is the High School Student of the Week. She was nominated by Mrs. T. Moody.

Mrs. T. Moody said, "Olha is always striving to do her best in all subjects. She has gained great confidence in her English speaking and works hard in any tasks that she is given. Olha has a very positive attitude towards her education."
