High School Student of the Week

Grade 12 student Jayda MacDonald is the High School Student of the Week. She was nominated by Mrs. A. Moody and Mr. Hallihan.

Mrs. A. Moody said, "Jayda has taken a keen interest in her co-op with Mrs. Waugh's Kindergarten class. She is both patient and kind and always enters the classroom with a positive outlook." 

Mr. Hallihan added, "Jayda has returned to Outdoor Education by getting a Personal Interest credit. She has taken on a leadership role in the class. Jayda is one to step up to get things done on our trips whether it is bottling syrup at Maritime Maples or sweeping the floor at John's Brophy's camp. She is a great addition to the course and I am happy to have her back!"

The other students nominated are Kale Hallihan and Jaclyn Gilchrist.

Pie in the Face

 

High School Student of the Week


Grade 9 student Kolby McCormack is the High School Student of the Week. He was nominated by Mrs. J Underhill.

Mrs. Underhill said, "Kolby is a very positive and hardworking student. He always tries his absolute best in class and adds so much cheer to our classroom environment. Keep up the great work, Kolby."

Pie in the Face Raises Money for Relay for Life

Students and staff at Blackville School had the opportunity "to pie" select staff and high school student council members on Monday, April 8.

The money raised is going toward the Relay for Life fundraising efforts. Further events for the Relay for Life are scheduled for the end of May.

Grade 12 student Jaxon Jardine is the High School Student of the Week. He was nominated by Mr. A Hallihan.

Mr. Hallihan said, "Jaxon has been an active student in both my Outdoor Education 110 and Develop & Lead 110 courses. He takes a leadership role both in and out of the classroom as well as the ice."

The other students nominated are Lexie Sobey and Thomas Burns.

Grade 10 student Montana Stewart is the High School Student of the Week. She was nominated by Mrs. A. Moody.

Mrs. Moody said, "Montana is doing very well in Essential Skills this term. She is motivated and shows a great dal of independence when working on projects. It is great having her in my class."

Winter Carnival 2024

Staff and students celebrated Winter Carnival with a variety of different events and activities throughout the last week before the March break. There were different dress up days. During Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, a K-12 rally was held in the gym.

On Friday morning, the middle and high school students had pancake breakfasts. There were also various activities and events during the day. To see photos from the Winter Carnival week, click here.

High School Student of the Week

Grade 11 student Curtis Duffy is the High School Student of the Week. He was nominated by Mr. Hallihan.

Mr. Hallihan said, "Curtis is always pleasant and polite in and out of the classroom. He took Outdoor Education 110 first semester and is back taking a Personal Interest credit doing it again as a student leader. He also has an interest in fly tying and plans to commit weekly to a fishing club for interested students."

The other students nominated are Kolton Collins, Sydney Snow and Gary Vautour.

Fancy Shawl Dancer Visits Blackville School

Fancy Shawl Dancer Shelly Ann Robichaud presented and spoke to the students and staff on Friday, February 9 about Indigenous history and culture.

A Mi'kmaw from the Esgenoôpetitj First Nation Community, Robichaud led the assembly to chant traditional songs. Many of the younger students also joined her in dance.

Following the morning presentation, she was available in the open area of the school with her exhibit, showcasing different aspects of Mi'kmaq culture. She then led the grade 9 students in a dream catcher workshop.


On a Facebook post, Robichaud said "spending a morning with K-12 brought me so much joy, love and good medicine."

She added, "Thank you to my former English teacher Ms. Shannon Stewart for welcoming me into your grade 9 class to do a dream catcher workshop. I am so proud of each and every student for participating, showing respect and being so patient."

High School Student of the Week

Grade 10 student Danica Mullin is the High School Student of the Week. She was nominated by Loretta Gorbett and Mr. A. Hallihan.

Loretta said, "Danica is always at the office every morning to do the announcements, and does a great job at it. Her dedication for doing this does not go unnoticed." Mr. Hallihan added, "she does well in her math class and is a good class contributor. She was also a great mentor to our exchange student Julia Marato and even travelled to the airport to see her off."
