There were 62 exhibits on display last Thursday, May 19 when Blackville School held its Young Entrepreneurs Showcase and Market. Students from various grade levels in middle and high school promoted, sold and took orders for various products.

Some of the merchandise included stickers, clothing, keychains, customized plaques and cutting boards, book bags, pet collars and fishing flies. The total amount raised by the young entrepreneurs was $6629.96.

Four high school students and four middle school students participated in the "Pitch Your Idea" activity with panels guests Ries Van Beek from the Centre of Excellence Entrepreneurship, Kevin Gallant from APEGNB, Rob Lehnert from ASDN ICE Centre, Jennifer McFarlane from ASDN Guidance, Rachel Bell from ASDN First Nations and Blackville Principal Rodney Buggie.

Some students achieved special recognition for their efforts. Grade 12 student Jaiden Betts won the Top Pitch prize and Grade 11 student Ashanti Boateng won Top Display/Packaging/Product. Grade 11 student Michaela Theriault won Top Sales.

The student exhibitors were busy all day with Blackville School students and staff checking out their wares. Additionally, many people in the community came out and middle school students from Max Aitken visited.

Students also took advantage of the event by selling popcorn and holding a barbecue. This effort along with money raised from a recent high school dance, plus a High School Student Council donation, raised  $1001 for Ukraine relief.
